AGH IKEA!

So today marks the first (and hopefully only) ever trip to the ER in Houston.

S. was putting together some lovely IKEA furniture and somehow managed to slice open his thumb pretty badly. Luckily we kept our cool, dropped him off in the ER and then headed home to wait. and wait. and we are still waiting. Last update they have wrapped it up and no word yet on stitches. I'm sure he will make it and hopefully get a pretty B.A. scar in the end. Totally good for wooing the ladies.

In other news - I've successfully created my Big Goal for my students next year and am beginning planning the all too important classroom management plan. The weekend will consist of figuring out some more stuff for my classroom along with taking the 'rents around h-town. They are getting in tomorrow night which means I'll finally get all the rest of my stuff here but I am sadly still without a desk. Thats also on the weekend to-do list.

Otherwise enjoy an adorable picture of all four of us....

Real World - Houston '09

Institute is done.
Life in Houston has begun.

I know its been a while since an update but I've been without internet in the house and was traipsing around Boston all of this last week. Institute ended on the 10th and we went out with a bang. My kids made amazing academic gains and we had some fun times "partying" on our last day. I even had them write me letters on my last day and got some of the cutest notes.

It was very bittersweet leaving institute. I was so excited to get out of Moody towers but having everyone going in different directions for the next two years was no fun. Some of the coolest people we met are now teaching in the Mississippi delta or the Rio Grande Valley. Looks like we will have to make trips to visit everyone!

Now after a week of relaxing in Boston we are back to the grind in TX. S. picked me up on Thursday and we made the drive straight from Boston back to H-town. 32 straight hours in the car. Fun!

It was extremely nice getting back into town. We had a very chill first night and then enjoyed our first "small gathering of close friends" last night. We spent today reminiscing about how our life in this house is basically Real World -Houston '09. Make assumptions as you like. They will probably be right.

Tomorrow Round Zero starts so we are back to work bright and early at 730 am. awesome.

You buy it. We fry it.

Oh Texas!

This weekend we got a real first hand look at Texas in its prime. Independence Day. You know how they say everything is bigger in Texas? Well we got a front row seat to the largest land based fireworks show in the USA. And I must say, it was awesome.

We spent our afternoon BBQing in a friend's backyard soaking up WAYYY too much heat
and then spent the evening lounging in the park downtown prepping for the fireworks ahead. The show was set to lots of fun music (starting off with the star wars theme!) and the fireworks were amazing.

In other news, I spent my weekend getting to know my new home a little better. Friday I took the boys on a shopping trip to get some vintage finds and introduced S. to the wonder that is Urban Outfitters. I even scored some amazing $30 Kate Spade peeptoes! After a day of shopping C. and I went on a "date" for dinner and a movie. We went to the aptly named PAD THAI RESTAURANT and then saw Food Inc. (go here NOW http://www.foodincmovie.com/)

After a crazy weekend off its back to school for my final week starting tomorrow. I can't even believe I'm almost done! I feel like I just got started with these kids and I'm going to have to leave them already. Don't get me wrong. I'm certainly looking forward to a week in Boston and getting to see my long lost loves but its weird to think my time at institute is almost up.

This is what I have to look forward to this week:
-Astros game tomorrow (this could be hit or miss)
-Closing Ceremonies and the madness that ensues afterwards
-Not living in Moody Towers anymore
-Last day of summer school!

After this week this is my new home!
